Planetarium
The former water tower in the Hamburg city park houses the Hamburg planetarium, which is one of the oldest of the world. However, most modern technology hides behind the old walls of the building that is under preservation of listed buildings. The water tower was built from 1912 to 1915 according to plans of the architect O. Menzel under the management of the Hamburg master builder Fritz Schumacher.

After the Hamburg government had bought a Zeiss planetarium in 1925 and looked for a suitable location for a long time, they decided in favour of the water tower in 1929.
There the planetarium was installed and taken into operation in 1930.
Apart from virtual space journeys, visitors can participate in pop or classical music concerts under the starry sky - the Hamburg planetarium is lecture room, museum and theatre in one.
