Schauspielhaus
Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer built the „Deutsche Schauspielhaus“ in Hamburg in the style of the historicism (baroque) at the end of the 1900th century.
The theatre opened at the Kirchenalle with Goethes "Iphigenie on Tauris" on September 15th, 1900.

History of the Schauspielhaus

St. Pauli Theater
The St. Pauli Theatre, Hamburg's oldest stage, opened in 1841 on the "Reeperbahn" as a Residence Theatre. Behind it's green façade you find a richly decorated baroque interior in red and gold. The programme alternates between comedy and rousing celebrated musicals.

Kellertheater
The "Kellertheater" is one of the oldest smaller theatres in town, where comedies, detective stories, and plays for children, like for instance Saint-Exupery's "Little Prince" as well as readings are offered.

Ernst Deutsch Theater
A firm institution in Hamburg's world of theatre is the Ernst Deutsch Theatre since 1951. The only private House in town with it's own work shops is the largest private stage of spoken words in Germany. Many prominent guests have featured here and many young talents have started their career at the Ernst Deutsch Theatre.

Hamburger Kammerspiele
Originally the actor and director Erich Ziegel founded the „Hamburger Kammerspiele“ in August 1918. After Erich Ziegel had resigned his work in 1934, Ida Ehre reopened the Hamburger Kammerspiele in 1945.The theatre soon became a forum for works of oppressed international emigrated authors and young writers. The unforgotten Ida Ehre run the house until her death in February 1989.

Thalia Theater   
Known as one of the most versatile and best theatres in Germany
is the 1843 in Hamburg established Theatre.

Das Schiff
Hamburg's Cultural steamboat. The only seaworthy ship-theatre has it's firm mooring since 1975 in the "Nicolay Fleet" by the "Holzbrücke". 

Pulverfass-Cabaret
This cabaret with it's international travesty performances counts to the most important Show-Cabarets worldwide. Shows daily 8.30 and 11.30 p.m., Fr. & Sa. also 02.30 a.m.

Monsun Theater
The Monsun Theater resides since 1979 in the middle of the Hamburg district Ottensen. It
is a little privately led house with 79 seats. After 25 years season contemporary speak-, dance- and music theatre, Chamber operas, classic evenings, but also Jazz concerts and children's theatres are offered here

The English Theatre 
The "English Theatre of Hamburg e.V." is a private professional theatre, wich was founded in 1976 by two Americans. It is partly subsidized by the Bureau of cultural affairs in Hamburg. It is a non profit organization and a member of the "Deutsche Bühnenverein". All performances are in English.

This is the most popular People's theatre performing in the Hamburg Low German.
